The broad technologies offered by Prolamina are usually only found in much larger companies. Yet despite the depth and breadth of our products and services, we maintain the innovation and responsiveness of a smaller company. Our technology is developed and utilized in partnership with our customers and suppliers to ensure that it is relevant, efficient and commercially viable. Whether metallizing films, applying adhesives, printing finished products or base substrates, or extrusion coating and laminating, we always strive to incorporate the best technology using the most environmentally responsible processes.
This is the core of our business. Prolamina has several extrusion coating/laminating lines with wide-width capabilities. These lines are capable of producing a variety of products and substrates to service the flexible packaging, health care and industrial markets. Whether it’s sugar packets, lidding, foil pouch laminations or cosmetic web applications, our combination of single-head and tandem/coextrusion equipment serves the full marketplace.
Prolamina takes converting one step further with the ability to vacuum metallize a variety of substrates to complement our extrusion coating/laminating operation. Primarily for internal use, our vacuum-metallizing operation enables us to design multi-layer laminations for precise barrier characteristics. Rather than supplying a metallized layer that has a generic barrier property, we control the amount of metal deposition on the substrate to specifically meet our customers’ needs.
We have extensive experience metallizing PET, OPP and PE films, papers and coated non-woven fabrics for purposes of creating high barrier properties, heat retention and desirable aesthetics.
Prolamina uses numerous printing presses to enhance our coating and laminating capabilities. Our presses deliver a combination of flexography and offset printing in widths up to 75 inches. We are able to reverse print film, or surface print paper, foil or film in up to 10 colors.
We produce consistently high quality printing, and achieve a higher-end color spread, by using flexo’s color density capabilities to increase the color gamut. In addition, the flexo process produces excellent registration on small process print, delivering crisper fine print. Having both solvent and water based printing technology allows us greater flexibility in product design.
The use of flexo allows Prolamina to accommodate customers with shorter runs while offering consistent product quality. Ultimately, the rich colorful flexo results underscore our customers brand, in addition to providing a quality product at a better cost.
The high color density offered by the flexo process delivers:
- An increased color gamut
- Better white opacity
- Very clean highlights
- Shadow fades to nothing
- Clean, high-contrast imagery (as whites are whiter and dark colors are darker)
- Crisper fine print

Prolamina’s prepress services and packaging design ensure a quality production process for every customer. All digital files submitted to Prolamina undergo a thorough inspection before production to ensure that all necessary data (fonts, support files, color information, etc.) are as they should be. The preflight stage is critical for saving time and money, and for producing a quality file for plate production.
